The main event also marks the end of the competition weekend; the RheinMainCityRace 2019.
OLV Steinberg e. V. as organiser has selected a very interesting competition terrain right in middle of Darmstadt city. The northern part of the terrain lies in the Martinsviertel from the city's origin, in which most of the original settlements remain preserved. Here are not only classical route choices important but also finding the right entrance to labyrinthine courtyards, in which controls may be hidden.
South of the lies the Hessen State Museum, alongside the Herrngarten and the old campus of the technical university. The terrain change requires concentration from the runners, as the open fields of the gardens allow runners high speed close to the red line, while the adjacent campus with a number of levels connected by stairs requires more precise technique.
After a map exchange the courses move past the Darmstadt castle and the central Luisenplatz into the expansive pedestrian zone, which rises gently towards the south. Here it is important when planning each route to take note of all the allyways and passages between the shopping malls.
